Hardware Engineer



Third Wave Automation is looking for a Hardware Engineer to design and manage the fabrication of compute and sensor nodes for autonomous forklifts. As part of the Third Wave team, you will work at the forefront of robot learning and join a team of experts in machine learning and robotics.

Role And Responsibilities

As part of the Third Wave team, you will:

  • Design, build and test hardware targeted at the logistics and supply chain industry.

  • Deliver high-quality hardware design, documentation, and implementation.

  • Work closely with manufacturing partners to create strongly integrated systems.

  • Contribute to all aspects of product development, from brainstorming to final delivery. Identify technical and developmental risks/obstacles, and provide expert recommendations on development schedule.

  • Provide technical leadership in areas of your specialization and supply original ideas and improvements to project designs, pipelines, and tools.

  • Prototype ideas, think creatively, resolve technical challenges, and work around limitations.

  • Collaborate closely with other team members and external fabricators.

  • Contribute to IP development and write functional requirement documents and guides.

Skills And Experience

We're looking for a passionate teammate who can quickly join our team and start contributing. There are many experiences that would make someone a good fit, like:

  • 5+ years of experience in hands-on development of hardware systems.

  • Practical experience integrating compute systems with complex mechanical systems.

  • Experience in taking experimental hardware from a prototype to full scale production.

  • Strong CAD Design skills, spanning rapid prototyping to DFM

  • Experience with additive manufacture a plus

  • Knowledge of chipset architectures (Snapdragon 845, Google edge TPUs etc.) is a plus.

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills (written, oral, internal, and client-facing).

  • Welcomes new challenges and works well in a fast-paced, startup environment.

  • Works independently across disciplines to investigate issues and determine solutions and to plan and complete responsibilities with limited supervision or direction.

  • Passion for new innovative technologies and enjoys working in fast-paced, dynamic environments with a small team and short timelines.
